Confidentiality and Privacy Policy

Confidentiality

The therapy sessions I offer are confidential, in accordance with the ethical standards set out by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

There are a small number of potential exceptions to full confidentiality, which are stated below. Breaching confidentially is extremely rare and would only occur after proper and due consideration and discussion where possible.

  • If a client poses a risk of harm to themselves or others.
  • If a client states they are laundering money from the sale of drugs.
  • On receipt of a court order requiring information to be provided.
  • Should information be given regarding acts of terrorism.
  • If a child is being abused or is in danger of abuse.

As a requirement of the BACP, and my commitment to improving my practice, I undertake clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor. The supervisor is an experienced fellow therapist. On occasion I may review sessions, whilst maintaining client anonymity. My supervisor is also bound to keep any such material confidential.

These exceptions are designed to provide clients with peace of mind and a safe therapeutic environment.
